The unnamed Youth called at the Corner Shop on the day that a lorry carrying a load of wood crashed into the front of the Rovers, injuring several residents, including Alf Roberts. Taking advantage of the empty premises, he helped himself to three packs of cigarettes and was about to rifle through the till when Vera Duckworth called in and, reminding him that Coronation Street was full of police, demanded to see the contents of his pockets. She sent him on his way with a clip round the ear which earned her a threat from the youth that he would remember her.
