Weatherfield Town Hall has been, directly or indirectly, associated with many of the characters of Coronation Street. The former county borough was fortunate enough to survive the 1972 local government reforms retaining the name "Weatherfield" for the larger area, so the Town Hall continued without any need for a name change.

Notable council members and staff who have worked at the Town Hall include:

  • Janet Barlow (then using her maiden surname "Reid") worked as a town hall clerk from 1969 (or earlier) until 1973.
  • Len Fairclough was a county borough councillor, which would explain how he met the future Janet Barlow.
  • Alf Roberts was mayor for two widely-separated terms, one under each council.
  • Deirdre Barlow was a councillor from 1987 until 1991. She later worked there as a secretary.
  • Audrey Roberts has also been a councillor.
  • Wendy Crozier was a council secretary but was sacked for disclosing confidential information to Ken Barlow.
