Weatherfield Girls' Grammar School was a prestigious Weatherfield school where Joan Walker received her secondary education in the 1950s. Annie was determined that her children would not be disadvantaged in life because of their schooling, despite having only received a council education herself.
Having passed the 11-plus, Lucille Hewitt was a pupil at the school from 1961 to 1965. The establishment organised a two-week trip to Belgium for the pupils in 1963, at the cost of £30. Ultimately, the Hewitts were unable to raise the money but Lucille took the disappointment of missing out on going abroad with good grace.
- Location filming for the school in June 1963 was conducted at the Manchester Central Grammar School for Girls on Whitworth Street.
