Wayne Gaskell was the estranged older brother of Sharon and father to drug lord Harvey.

When Sharon hosted her 17th birthday party at the home of her foster parents Len and Rita Fairclough in March 1982, Wayne turned up unannounced and began feuding with Steve Dunthorne who had taken offence towards his treatment of Trish Keegan. Despite having encouraged Len and Rita to head out for the night so that she and her friends could party in peace, Sharon later retrieved Len from the Rovers Return in order to break up the fight and Len chucked Wayne out after he became aggressive towards Trish.

Despite his troublesome behaviour, Wayne apparently moved on from his bad boy image and began his own business. He kept in contact with his sister, the only brother to do so as their two other siblings Darren and Gary had fallen out of communication with her. By 2021 Wayne had passed away, with Sharon inheriting his estate.
