The Vicar officiated at the wedding of Roy Cropper and Cathy Matthews at St. Mary's Church in December 2016. Unfortunately, the ceremony did not take place as Cathy had found a Dictaphone recording that revealed that Roy did not want to marry her. Cathy asked the vicar to clear the church and told him that the wedding was off.
The vicar next conducted a service on Christmas Day. Former vicar Billy Mayhew attended the service and found Shona Ramsey drinking in the vestry. Billy decided to take Shona back to 11 Coronation Street in order to give her a meal and somewhere to stay for the day. Billy decided that meeting Shona was a sign from God and told his boyfriend Todd Grimshaw that he belonged with the church.
In April 2022, he conducted the funeral of violent loan shark Rick Neelan who had been murdered three years before but whose body had only just been discovered. As he spoke from the lectern, a previous victim of Rick, builder Dave Burman entered the church and approached the coffin. The vicar invited him to say a few words, upon which Dave spat on the coffin, saying that he had always sworn to do so and that he hoped the deceased rotted in hell. Gary Windass, acting as Kelly Neelan's guardian, punched him to the floor and roughly escorted him out of the church, threatening him with dire consequences if he ever showed his face again.
