The Vicar at St. Mary's Church conducted the wedding ceremony of Lisa Horton to convicted prisoner Terry Duckworth, who was granted day release from Strangeways Jail in order to marry in May 1992. The vicar was forced to halt the start of the service when Terry's mother Vera asked the Prison Officer to remove Terry's handcuffs for the duration of the ceremony. The officer agreed and Terry subsequently made a run for it outside the church while photographs were being taken.
