This is a follow-up to our #StarsoftheStreet series on Twitter we wrapped up on New Year's Day. Ever since we completed our mission of having cast lists for every episode, I've wanted to do an analysis of the numbers that goes deeper than Corriepedia normally does - the iceberg of Corrie appearance stats if you like. We've spent a few weeks crunching the numbers, so here are all the stats about Coronation Street you never needed to know.

Cast size

How has the number of actors in the cast changed over the years? This is the number of regulars who have appeared at any point in one calendar year. Note that if a character is recast at some point in the year they are still counted as one. The second column is number of main cast who appear in each episode that year, on average.

Age

Some caveats for these stats. The age an actor turned on their birthday in a given year is taken as their age that year. In about 95% of cases, we have the actor's date of birth. Where we don't, have used the DOB of their character. If we don't have either, we have made an assumption although this applies to only a handful of cases.
