The Town Hall Chauffeur delivered a letter from the departing Mayoress Ethel Bostock to her replacement Annie Walker at the Rovers Return in 1973. The letter informed Annie that Ethel would be calling at the Rovers to meet and advise her on her role. The chauffeur handed the envelope to Bet Lynch, the barmaid on duty who, taking one look at his official attire, told him that she was kinky about men in uniforms and asked if he'd come to have his way with her. However, the chauffeur did not seem interested and left straight after Bet took the envelope from him.
As he entered the Rovers, the chauffeur bumped into Alf Roberts, Mayor to Annie's Mayoress. The chauffeur greeted Alf but, busy with his own problems, the councillor ignored him.
