Tony Slattery was born 9th November, 1959 in Stonebridge, London. He attended Trinity Hall college in Cambridge and became president of Cambridge Footlights and this led on to many appearances on television comedy and satire shows such as Whose Line Is It Anyway? and Have I Got News For You. He has also appeared in many acting roles in films such as The Crying Game and Peter's Friends.

After several years of a high profile on television he hit the news when he when became a reclusive figure suffering from a form of depression and was eventually persuaded by friends to seek treatment. This was successful and he made an acting comeback with several roles, including the part of Eric Talford in Coronation Street in 2005.
