Tony Gordon was one of a pair of insolent maintenance men who caused trouble for David Barlow at Sid Lambert's social club in 1965. Employed at Lambert's engineering firm S Lambert Ltd, Tony and Johnny Nicholls clashed with David when he, in his capacity as sports and social officer, hired Len Fairclough to put up shelves in the club bar rather than have the work carried out in-house.
The quieter of the two men, Tony tended to follow Johnny's lead. When the club barman Joe refused to serve the men two pints of bitter outside licensing hours, Tony pointed out that Sid was never in before lunchtime, prompting Johnny to pull the pints himself. Later, when the men discovered they'd been passed over for the shelving job, Tony told Johnny that David wanted fixing and Johnny was the boy to do it. Deciding to get their own back, they got tickets to the upcoming social club dance from Joe. At the dance, Johnny pestered David and his fiancée Irma Ogden, with Tony again backing up his friend when David came close to lamping Johnny when the man pinched Irma's bottom. The arrival of Sid prevented the situation from escalating further, and the men looked on smugly as David received a stern rebuke from his boss for his heavy-handed response to "a bit of fun".
- Credited as "Tony". The character was given a surname in dialogue in Episode 484. He is not to be confused with Tony Gordon, the Scots businessman who appeared between 2007 and 2010.
