Tile Street is a Weatherfield thoroughfare located some distance from Coronation Street, which was home to the Preston family at No.6. Sisters Betty and Maggie were born at the property in 1920 and 1924 respectively, and the family resided here until some time after World War II.
A police station was located on Tile Street in the 1960s.
5 Tile Street was the home of undertaker Archie Shuttleworth, who also worked at Shuttleworth's Independent Funeral Directors adjoining the house.

In 2015, a large cash converters opened up on the street, much to Barlow's Buys owner Tracy Barlow's annoyance. A Cyber Cafe and a hairdressers owned by "Old Man Guthrie" also operated on Tile Street.
