The Stag Inn was the first pub built by The Stag Brewery.
In 1848, the Stag Inn was opened on Bridgegate Street (which would later be renamed Albert Road) - the same street where the brewery was built in 1781. In the same year the pub opened, the brewery co-founder Fairley Oakes passed away. In 1850, a second public house was opened following the success of The Stag - it was named The Flying Dutchman.
