Ted Carroll (born "Edward Michael Carroll" on 11th May 1920 in Leeds, died 1998 in Bradford) appeared on Coronation Street in two roles: firstly in September 1971 as Andrew McPriest, a thug employed by Dave Smith; and he returned to the programme in May 1978 as a lorry driver delivering baths to Fairclough and Langton's yard.
A professional boxer in his youth, he served as a "Desert Rat" in World War II where he successfully played in an impromptu game of rugby league and as a result, was signed up by Hunslet Parkside after the conflict was over. His sporting career resulted in a unique-looking broken nose which gained him many a part as a heavy when he took up acting.
He also appeared in Doomwatch, Man at the Top, The Flaxton Boys, Follyfoot, Sam, The Evacuees (written by Jack Rosenthal), Days of Hope, Emmerdale Farm, The XYY Man, Rosie, I Didn't Know You Cared, Flambards, Worzel Gummidge, Juliet Bravo, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, All Creatures Great and Small and Wish Me Luck.
Film roles included Kes, Dracula and Flash Gordon.
He and his wife Beryl ran the Rose and Crown pub in Ilkley for many years.
