I seem to remember Violet being presented with a special award(something like a Lifetime Achievement Award)at the TVTimes Awards circa Spring 1980. The TVTimes Awards were big business back in the 70s and early 80s. Viewers voted in about 10 categories. The Special Award was only introduced around 1979 and the first recipient was Noele Gordon. Apparently the award was dreamed up to make Miss Gordon ineligible in other categories in the future as she'd dominated two of the categories over the previous decade. I'm sure I remember Violet making a rare TV appearance  as herself to colllect her award. I wonder if anyone else recalls this or has any further info on the subject.70s Fan (talk) 19:59, February 9, 2013 (UTC)

I've found a video on Youtube (entitled "Violet Carson 1898-1983") for the purpose of the site's search engine. Approximately half-way through the two minute clip, there's a brief glimpse of Violet collecting her award of "Supreme Actress" awarded by the TV Times viewers in 1979. Hopefully, this is what you're referring to, but if not, it's an interesting clip nevertheless. --Karen2310 (talk) 23:00, February 9, 2013 (UTC)
Karen, thanks for pointing me to the YouTube clip(presumably from the news when she died)- Yes,this would've been the award I was referring to. I still believe that it was 1980(I'll have to check that out) and I think that the Special Award was chosen by the magazine rather than the readers. Australia[]

Yes, I was a crew member on Oriana in 1968. Violet came to the crew bar dressed as Ena and hammered away on the piano - we had a fantastic sing-song night. Australian crowds came to the docks in their thousands to see her when we arrived in Fremantle on 6th March 1968. Same thing happened again when we arrived in Melbourne on 9th March 1968. Violet left the ship in Melbourne. (Posted by IP: 82.42.195.253)
