Elsie's reaction to Val's deathEdit

I've deleted the line concerning Elsie being devastated by Val's death. Pat Phoenix was on vacation during the funeral week and the following week when she does appear, no scenes are shown of her reaction. The way the sentence was written gives the im

pression that Elsie was shown mourning and, strange as it may seem, no such scene is shown.--Jtomlin1uk 08:48, February 18, 2010 (UTC)

Facts?Edit

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Reid

The above wikipedia link gives some intresting information about Anne Reid and Valerie Barlow. I think if someone can verify it would be intresting to incorperate into the article. However, I cant find any other site to verify any of it. That cards, cigars, and flowers were sent to Val when the twins were born and the viewing figures it quotes contradict the ones quoted here. I do know that the studio recieved flowers when Val died (the same happened with Martha Longhurst, Harry Hewitt, and Jerry Booth died). But can anyone verify any of the other facts in the above wikipedia article? Mattfrye1 06:24, March 27, 2010 (UTC)

I wouldn't be surprised if daft viewers did send in such items and I'll try and see if the British Newspaper Library throws up any info next time I'm there. The article quotes no source for the viewing figures but quotes them in viewer numbers instead of number of homes, the latter method being used by ITV only, and I suspect that the figures quoted here are from the BBC's records or don't use the BFI's calculation of 2.2 viewers to a home. They are not too far out though from the figures we quote. Bear in mind that there is no official figure for television viewing numbers before 1981 when BARB was established - just two sets of competing figures and we use the one favoured by ITV at the time which is also the one published in trade magazines such as The Stage and Broadcast too.--Jtomlin1uk 10:05, March 27, 2010 (UTC)

Yes your right there there probaly was daft viewers who did that. Its noted some viewers really get into a television show (Larry Hagman commented back in 1980 when JR Ewing was shot on the US soap Dallas that churches nationwide had prayer requests for his recovery!). I have seen Daran Littles material that says viewers quite often request a viewing of a house on Coronation Street when one goes on sale in a storyline, and request inventations for fictional Corrie weddings. Makes you wander if these people are just joking about or really get so into the show they think its real? Mattfrye1 11:28, March 27, 2010 (UTC)
