Hope you don't mind me adding the Rovers picture from 1877 to compliment the background info section. As soon as I read your piece, I knew that a photograph existed as the Manchester Evening News had printed it many times over the years.--Jtomlin1uk 18:26, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Corrie's biggest mystery. Rovers Toilets leading into Barlows living room. My theory.[]
Hi
Since the beginning of the show there has been many complaints and observations that the Rovers Return toilets which are on the right side of the pub if you are looking at it from the entrance seem to lead straight into the living room of No 1 thus explaining why Albert Tatlock was so grumpy during his almost 2 and a half decades in the show. Also it could explain why Blance was so waspish and rude and the carpet is so threadbare lol.
My theory is the toilets are in the pub basement where the cellar is. As you go through the door from the main bar straight ahead is a wall which the pub side wall of the ginnel is on the other side of. And there is a small stairwell which leads off to the left downstairs and one to the right, one leading to the ladies and one to the gents. Although that can be conflicted when Albert Tatlock climbed out of the toilets window in 1968. He'd have a hell of a job escaping if they were under the pub where the cellar is. Just a theory though that the lavs are under the pub.

- Ray Langton also climbed out of the window in 1971. It's fun but eventually fruitless trying to rationalise the layout of the Rovers. Ultimately, it's just an effect of Denis Parkin not having the time in 1960 to compose a full layout of the street. The show was not "months in the planning" as they had to go to air with something in December 1960 and this is the result.--Jtomlin1uk 12:20, May 21, 2011 (UTC)
