Stefan Brent is the father of wayward Corey.

In April 2021, Dev Alahan invited Stefan to Speed Daal in order to discuss his teenage daughter Asha's living arrangements as she had moved in with Corey and his parents. While Stefan had no issue with the possibility that the teenagers were having unprotected sex, he later agreed that Asha should return home. However, when Corey and Asha threatened to sleep rough instead of being separated, Stefan took over 12 Victoria Court's lease and allowed the pair to stay there.

The following month Corey initiated the attack on Nina Lucas and Seb Franklin which resulted in the latter's death. Stefan believed Corey to be innocent and insisted that he tell the truth, to which Corey placed the blame entirely on Kelly Neelan. As Corey was further questioned when new evidence came to light about his movements on the night, a furious Stefan continued to defend him and accused DS Swain of bullying, protesting how his son was in hospital after being drugged and pushed down the stairs by Asha and Seb's mother Abi Franklin in their efforts to get his phone.

After Corey was charged with Seb's murder, Stefan hired Sabeen Habeeb and a large legal team to represent him in court. During the trial, a desperate Kelly accused Stefan of paying off Eli Higginson. Clocking Stefan's reaction, Abi pressed him on the matter as court adjourned, and he threatened to sue her for slander in response. Abi continued to dig into it, and discovered that Stefan had recently hired Eli's father Christian for a high-ranking position in his company despite his apparent lack of experience. This prompted her to believe that Stefan had indeed bribed Eli to change his statement to exonerate Corey. Though she tried to report this to the police, they determined that Stefan had acted above board. At the end of the trial, Imran Habeeb, Kelly's solicitor, overheard Stefan arguing with Corey and Sabeen on the matter, seemingly confirming her suspicions. On the morning of the verdict, Abi confronted Stefan in his office, trying to record him confessing to the bribe. However, he was aware of what she was trying to do and summoned the police with a panic button, continuing to deny any wrongdoing. Corey was found not guilty by the jury and released from prison. Upon learning that Corey was to play for Weatherfield County FC's first team, Kevin Webster tried to get him thrown out, prompting Stefan to confront him and warn him to back off. After Nina began posting fliers asserting Corey's guilt, Stefan visited her uncle Roy Cropper and threatened to sue her for libel.

Stefan was finally forced to confront what his son had done after Corey revealed that his clothing from the night of the attack was in third party hands. He berated his son for ruining everything for them before they went into hiding preparing to flee the country. His plan to use Christian to drive them to a houseboat for safety failed when Christian was confronted by Gary Windass, who took control of their getaway van and drove the Brents to Weatherfield Police Station. After further interrogation, Corey was again charged with murder with Stefan vowing to help him.
