Sophie Thompson (born 20th January 1962 in London) appeared on Coronation Street in March and June 2018 as clairvoyant Rosemary Piper.

The second daughter of Eric Thompson and Phylida Law, and younger sister of Dame Emma Thompson DBE, Sophie made her television debut at the age of fifteen in the BBC adaptation of the Alison Uttley classic A Traveller in Time and then went on to study at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

Her other television credits include EastEnders, Casualty, Jonathan Creek, Midsomer Murders, Agatha Christie's Poirot, Death in Paradise and Inside No. 9 as well as movies Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, Four Weddings and a Funeral, A Room with a View and Ratburger.

On stage she has appeared in productions of Hamlet, Measure for Measure, Clybourne Park, Company, The Female of the Species, She Stoops to Conquer, The Physicists, Guys and Dolls, Peter Pan and an Olivier award-winning turn in Into the Woods.

She was the eventual winner of the BBC cookery competition Celebrity Masterchef in 2014.
