Simon J. D. Smithies (born 26th April 1965 in Lancaster) appeared on Coronation Street in four roles:
- A builder who appeared intermittently between February 2008 and May 2016
- A fire officer deployed following The Joinery bar explosion and tram derailment in December 2010
- George Blakeson, a fire investigator who appeared intermittently between March 2013 and February 2025
- Chris, a friend of Jim McDonald, appearing in September 2018.
He also appeared as Carlo Rossi in the online spin-off Just Rosie, released on 28th September 2011.
He graduated from the Manchester School of Acting in 2010 with an Advanced Diploma in acting for screen. An experienced variety performer and compere, he was the lead singer for the touring show band "Shooter" for seven years and also fronted The British Musical Fireworks Championships and The Sefton Prestige Awards.
His other credits include roles in Accused, Trollied, Shameless, Appropriate Adult, Hollyoaks, Scott & Bailey, DCI Banks, Pat & Cabbage, Mount Pleasant, Judge Rinder's Crown Court, The League of Gentlemen, Emmerdale, Moving On, Tin Star and The Bay, along with the films Baby Blues, Crust and Northern Soul.
