Shelagh Stephenson (born 1955 in Tynemouth, Northumberland) appeared on Coronation Street in both February and April 1981 as Jim's Cafe employee, Sandra Webb.
Reading drama at Manchester University, she has been credited on-screen for roles in Rumpole of the Bailey, Sapphire & Steel, The Gentle Touch, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Now and Then, Boon, Big Deal, Paradise Postponed and Emmerdale Farm, along with the films Facelift and Winter Flight.
Penning episodes of Casualty and Downton Abbey, she also scripted stage plays including The Memory of Water (which was awarded the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 2000 for Best New Comedy), An Experiment with an Air Pump, Ancient Lights, Five Kinds of Silence, Mappa Mundi and The Long Road.
Her plays for BBC Radio include Darling Peidi, Five Kinds of Silence (which was awarded the Writers Guild Award for Best Original Drama), Life is a Dream, Nemesis and The People's Princess. Shelagh was also a scriptwriter on BBC Radio 4's drama series Citizens.
