Sharon Butterlee was the owner of a runaway dog called Chewy.
While walking his dog Peanut on Victoria Street, Kirk Sutherland successfully stopped Chewy, much to the appreciation of Sharon. When she asked how he stopped her dog, Kirk told her he was a dab hand with dogs due to his years of experience working at the kennels.
Sharon told Kirk that Chewy had been named by her husband, however he left for a relationship with an air stewardess. Kirk asked if the dog had ever been trained and told Sharon he would be willing to help out with Chewy if necessary.
Sharon asked Kirk if he would be interested in training him and asked if £40 per hour would be satisfactory to start. Unwilling to rip Sharon off, Kirk told her he couldn't take that much and agreed to £30 instead, much to Sharon's delight.
Kirk later told his friend Tyrone Dobbs about his encounter with Sharon and Chewy at the Rovers. He remarked that Sharon was very friendly and was sympathetic about the departure of her husband. When Tyrone discovered that Sharon was of a similar age to Kirk, he advised her to lie about her age to avoid any potential suspicion from Kirk's wife Beth. Kirk followed Tyrone's advice and told Beth that the owner of the dog he was training was 60.
