The Security Guard was one of the team that looked after the various units on the Burnside Industrial Estate in Manchester which contained premises used by Lucas Kempton. He was an old friend of Carla Barlow who was ripping her off with a bogus order for Underworld put through a real company he briefly worked for - West Place Home and Lifestyle - who had recently opened a new northern office in Harrogate and which employed him for several months early in 2021. Sarah Barlow realised quickly that payment hadn't been made and when Carla discovered that Lucas had left the company's employ three weeks before, she and Sarah sped to the estate in their van where they jemmied open the door to the unit once they had espied the delivery boxes stacked up within.
They loaded them up in the Underworld van and had just finished their task when the guard came out of his office, singing Massachusetts to himself. Sarah, in the back of the van, pulled the door to, trapping Carla outside and in imminent danger of discovery. The guard saw the van and on the radioed instructions of a colleague was examining it when his own mobile rang with an urgent call from his annoyed wife which distracted him from the task at hand and drew him away, enabling the women to make their escape.
