Sarah Bridges was one of the earliest barmaids to serve at the Rovers Return.
Sarah was employed by Nellie Corbishley in 1905 as a live-in barmaid following the abrupt departure of Janey Atkinson who had been sacked after it was discovered that she had lied about being pregnant with Charlie Corbishley's child. Unlike Janey, Sarah took no interest in Charlie and warned him on her first night that she slept with a knife under her pillow and would stab him through the heart if he ever tried anything with her. However, at some point Sarah and Charlie had a brief fling and she was saddened by his death in 1916.
Over the course of many years Nellie had begun to suffer with bouts of sickness. Eventually her doctor revealed that she had slowly been poisoned over a long period of time and the culprit was soon deduced to be Sarah who wanted to have Nellie's husband Jim Corbishley all to herself. The Corbishleys threatened Sarah with the police and she fled the area with neighbour Alfie Marsh after stealing money from the pub till. Sarah and Alfie married, Alfie's second case of bigamy, and the pair were never heard from again in Weatherfield.
- Sarah first appeared in Daran Little and Bill Hill's "Weatherfield Life", published in 1992. Other information is derived from Little's follow-up book, "Around the Coronation Street Houses".
