The Salesman was heading to his car parked in Coronation Street in June 1983 and was approached by Suzie Birchall, who asked him for a lift.
Suzie had been thrown out of her lodgings at No.11 by an angry Elsie Tanner - who was incensed when she learned that Suzie had tried to seduce Brian Tilsley.
With her bags packed and intent on leaving the area behind, she asked if he would be heading anywhere near the M62. The salesman told her that his next call was in Blackburn. Commenting that it would "be a start", he opened the passenger door for her and Suzie accepted his offer.
