2011: Dennis Tanner arriving on Coronation Street as a homeless person

Roof & Refuge was a homeless charity that Ken Barlow's grandson James Cunningham worked for.

Sophie Webster and Sian Powers were touched by James's homeless shelter after overhearing him talk about it in Roy's Rolls. In true Christian style, the young couple wanted to know more about the project in hopes of helping out - much to the distaste of Sylvia Goodwin.

Shortly after, James opened Roy Cropper's eyes regarding the amount of food he wasted at the cafe and suggested it could go to a better place, such as Roof and Refuge.

Sophie and Sian soon started volunteering at the homeless shelter and Dennis Tanner turned up there in May 2011 in the hope of a hot meal.
