Ron Donachie (born "Ronald Eaglesham Porter" on 26th April 1956 in Dundee) appeared in Coronation Street between August and October 1984 as lorry driver and Jim's Cafe customer Joe Schofield.

He studied English Literature and Drama at Glasgow University and, after a year in the navy, worked for the 7.84 theatre company in which he narrowly missed out on joining the group "The Flying Pickets" in which Brian Hibbard was the lead singer.

He also appeared in Bulman, The Monocled Mutineer, Tutti Frutti, City Lights, Boon, Specials, High Road, Roughnecks, Takin' Over the Asylum, Harry Enfield and Chums, Cracker, Hamish Macbeth, Ivanhoe, Ain't Misbehavin', Rab C. Nesbitt, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Shackleton, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Silent Witness, Monarch of the Glen, The Bill, Where the Heart Is, Taggart, Doctor Who, Heartbeat, Rebus, Game of Thrones, Waterloo Road, Blandings, Casualty, River City and The Loch.

Film roles include Comfort and Joy, White Mischief, Fierce Creatures, Titanic, Beautiful Creatures, The Jungle Book, The Adventures of Greyfriars Bobby, Blitz and Filth.

He worked extensively in repertory theatre in the early 1980s, including over twenty plays at the Glasgow Citizens' Theatre and joined the National Theatre company in 2003. Among his many credits are One Big Blow, Scenes From the Big Picture, Living Quarters, Six Characters in Search of an Author, Scrap and A Streetcar Named Desire.

Radio work includes Citizens and dramatisations of the Rebus novels.
