Rick was drug dealer who frequented The Blue Ghost pub in Manchester which was recommended to Erica Holroyd by a friend of hers as somewhere that Izzy Armstrong could obtain supplies of marijuana for pain relief. Erica offered to go with Izzy the next day but she was in such pain that she insisted on an immediate visit on her own. All the regulars stared at Izzy as she entered in her chair and Rick complemented her on her "nice wheels". Coming straight to the point, Izzy asked him point-blank if he could supply her and after putting on a false front of being offended that she thought that he looked like a drug dealer, he supplied her with a small packet for £20, but with a sly wink to his friends sat nearby. It was only when Izzy was back home that she realised that he'd sold her oregano.
A brave Izzy went back the next day with the packet and sarcastically enquired if Rick thought she'd been planning a pizza party but he was unfazed and carried on playing pool. She demanded that he give her what she paid for and threatened to call the police but he in turn threatened her with assault and grabbed her phone from her. Tearfully, she got herself out of the chair to retrieve it but he started rifling through her handbag, only distracted when a fight broke out with his friends on the other side of the bar. Izzy used this opportunity as cover the escape the pub and was found outside later by her boyfriend Gary Windass who had finally noticed the frantic messages that she had left on her phone and came to rescue her.
