I've never been to an all-night party. The permissive society passed me by. I don't suppose I would have enjoyed it. I'll never know now, will I? Renee Roberts, 3rd March 1943 to 30th July 1980.

Irene Bradshaw, known as Renee was the daughter of Daisy Hibbert and step-daughter to Joe Hibbert. Her brother was Terry Bradshaw. When the family had moved from Weatherfield to Lancaster Renee found work in a supermarket.

Renee bought the shop on the corner of Coronation Street and Viaduct Street in 1976, taking over the running of the shop from the Hopkins family. Renee hoped that the flat above the shop would provide a stable home for her brother who had been troubled since leaving the armed forces. She was left alone and in a job she didn't particulalry want to do when her brother rejoined the army.

Renee offended some of her customers by refusing credit and her attempts to get a license to sell alcohol on the premises brought her into conflict with local publican [[Annie Walker[[.

After turning down one proposal from him Renee became Alf Roberts second wife on 20th of March 1978. At the reception her step-father and husband came to blows, and the couple honeymooned in Capri. After her marriage Renee stayed on as manager of the corner shop. When Alf decided to retire from the GPO to work at the shop full time the couple argued. Alf was subsequently involved in a serious accident and a striken Renee stayed by his bedside for three days waiting for him to recover, fearing that their last words would be harsh ones.

Renee died when her car stalled at traffic lights and a lorry crashed into her. Attempts to revive her failed.

Renee was played by the Blackburn born actress Madge Hindle.
