Raj Desai was the brother of Ravi and Urmila Desai as well as uncle to Dev Alahan.
In October 1999, Raj passed away from cancer resulting in Ravi - who was working in England at the time - to sell the Corner Shop in Coronation Street to Dev so that Ravi could find enough money to give his brother a proper funeral and support the family.
