The Prison Officer looked after the incarceration of three Coronation Street residents:

In November 2000 he was on duty at Strangeways Jail when Jim McDonald, sentenced to eight years for the manslaughter of Jez Quigley remarried Liz. His presence unnerved Steve McDonald, who recognised him from his own stint inside the prison. The vows had barely been exchanged before Jim was taken back to his cell although the “happy couple” were later able to talk to each other in the romantic surroundings of the visitors room.

In January 2003, he was working in the Young Offenders' Unit where Aidan Critchley was on bail pending his trial for the murder of Maxine Peacock and attempted murder of Emily Bishop, crimes for which Richard Hillman later confessed. He escorted Bob Critchley and later Ken Barlow in to visit the youngster.

In May of the same year, he was back in Strangeways where Les Battersby was now his charge after he was (wrongfully) convicted of assaulting Mick Hopwood. Les refused to go for breakfast and complained vociferously to the Officer about the injustice meted out to him but to no avail.

The character was credited as a “Prison Warden” rather than an Officer in his January 2003 appearances.
