Prestwich is a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, in Greater Manchester. It lies close to the River Irwell, is 3.3 miles north of Manchester city centre and has a population of over 30,000.

Olive Clarke, the widow of Percy Sugden's old army pal Nobby lived in the town and he visited her there in March and April 1993 after she'd informed him of his old pal's death some twelve months prior.

In January 2001, Les Battersby thought his taxi fare wanted to go to Prestwich, but the required destination was actually Prestwick in Scotland. In October 2005, kennel maid Molly Compton's services was called on by the owner of a disturbed Miniature Schnauzer who lived in the town. Finally, in August 2006, Steve McDonald almost had his first meeting with Ryan Connor at an athletics club in Prestwich when the boy's mother Michelle asked him to pick her son up, only to find that when he got there; that he'd already left and made his own way home.

Notes[]

Due to its proximity to the former Granada Television Quay Street studios, Prestwich has been used many times for Coronation Street location filming. Two notable examples are St. Mary's Church on Church Lane which has doubled for both St. Thomas's Church and St. Christopher's Church in the programme while the (rarely seen) outside of the Rosamund Street incarnation of Roy's Rolls used the 'La Contadina' Italian restaurant in the town.
