The Police Inspector gave evidence when Emily Nugent and Leonard Swindley appeared in Weatherfield Magistrates Court after a motoring incident in 1965. Emily had driven the wrong way down a one-way street during a driving lesson with Swindley. Her employer had then discovered that his driving licence had expired, making him ineligible to accompany a learner driver.
Addressing the magistrates, the inspector stated that his colleague PC Conway had witnessed the offence but was unable to stop the car, being on foot. Both pleading guilty, Emily and Swindley were fined £5 and £20 respectively.
