The Pianist in the Rovers Return Inn at a raucous party held in May 1982 to celebrate the engagement of Eddie Yeats and Marion Willis was actually the girlfriend of Cyril McGregor, one of Eddie's pals from Liverpool, although Cyril jokingly claimed not to know her name. Talented on the ivories, she played a popular repertoire including the scouse folk song Maggie May. A drunken Fred Gee got her to play If You Were the Only Girl In the World which he sang as a duet with an equally squiffy Hilda Ogden.
Annie Walker grew increasingly annoyed as the party went past time and called the police. Wanting the party to continue, Cyril and his brother Wes wheeled the piano outside with the intention of the girl playing it at Elsie Tanner's house but hearing the approach of the sirens, they scarpered, leaving Eddie, Marion and Fred to face the arm of the law.
