Philippa Howell (born 28th August 1950 in Pinner, Middlesex) appeared on Coronation Street in two roles: firstly in August 1991 as Annabelle Johnson, whose daughter Belinda was a friend of Victoria Arden; and she returned to the programme making intermittent appearances between March 1996 and September 2024 as the emiment judge, Janet Nagle, sitting at Weatherfield Magistrates Court.
Educated at Godolphin School in Salisbury, she graduated from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 1973.
Her other credits include roles in Softly Softly: Task Force, Backs to the Land, Inspector Morse, Kinsey, Cracker, How We Used to Live, Band of Gold, Out of the Blue, Emmerdale, Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, Heartbeat, Hollyoaks and The Worst Witch, along with the films Cry of the Banshee and When Saturday Comes.
On stage, she appeared in productions of The Land of the Dinosaurs, The Shaughraun, Shamrocks and Crocodiles and Canterbury Tales.
She also founded Philippa Howell Personal Management, with offices in London and Sheffield.
