Philip Whitchurch (born 30th January 1951 in Liverpool) appeared on Coronation Street in March 1984 as decorator, Dick Lewis.
He also appeared in the role of Cyril McGregor in all twenty-six episodes of the Street spin-off The Brothers McGregor, which ran between 1985 and 1988.
His other television credits include roles in Scully, The Practice, The Shoe People, Casualty, Little Sir Nicholas, Waterfront Beat, G.B.H., Sharpe, Plotlands, Peak Practice, My Hero, Wire in the Blood, Doctors, Holby City, Rocket Man, Waking the Dead, Place of Execution, Silent Witness and The Responder, along with the regular role of Chief Inspector Cato in The Bill from 1993 to 1995.
Film roles include Defence of the Realm, Half Moon Street, To Kill a Priest, Blue Ice, The English Patient, Treasure Island, 3 Blind Mice, Wondrous Oblivion, Beowulf & Grendel, Interview with a Hitman, Peterloo and The Doorman.
On stage, he appeared in productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Othello, Pravda, The Alchemist, A Doll's House, The Widowing of Mrs Holroyd, The Crucible, The Knickers, Women of Troy, The Changing Room, Summerfolk, Billy Elliot and King Lear.
He is married to actress Sally Edwards, who herself appeared on Coronation Street.
