Philip Jackson (born 18th June 1948 in Retford, Nottinghamshire) appeared on Coronation Street as Smithy, a lorry driver and diner at Jim's Cafe in June 1982.

He started acting while studying Drama and German at the University of Bristol and has worked in the theatre around the country. His other credits include roles in Dial M for Murder, Porridge, The Liver Birds, Last of the Summer Wine, Z Cars, Coming Home, Robin of Sherwood, Black Hearts in Battersea, Touching Evil, The Last Salute, Heartbeat, Funland, The Chase, Harley Street, Agatha Christie: Poirot, Boomers, Raised by Wolves and the films Pressure, Scum, The Doctor and the Devils, The Fourth Protocol, High Hopes, Bad Behaviour, Sista dansen, Brassed Off, The Opium War, Girls' Night, Cousin Bette, What Rats Won't Do, Little Voice, Mike Bassett: England Manager, The Intended, A Little Trip to Heaven, The Best Man, I Want Candy, Grow Your Own, My Week with Marilyn, City State, Spike Island, Deception, Believe and Patrick's Day.

On stage he has appeared in productions of Comedians, Breezeblock Park, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Icecream, Waiting for Godot, King Lear, Death of a Salesman, A Carpet, A Pony and A Monkey and Sergeant Musgrave's Dance.
