Philip Bretherton (born 30th May 1955 in Preston) appeared on Coronation Street in three roles:
- Rod, who along with friend Kevin, were entertained at 11 Coronation Street by Suzie Birchall and Gail Potter one evening in April 1977
- Married dentist Robert Weston, who had a brief affair with Jenny Bradley between January and March 1991
- Sleazy car salesman Ian Davenport, who Sally Webster had a brief fling with, appearing between November 2004 and May 2005.
He studied English and Drama at the University of Manchester.
Best known for the role of Alistair Deacon in As Time Goes By, his other credits include The Paradise Club, Hollyoaks, Holding On, Wing and a Prayer, Real Women and its sequel Real Women II, Casualty, Doctors, Footballers' Wives, The Londoners, Strike Back and Young Dracula, along with the 2013 feature film The Fifth Estate.
On stage, he appeared in productions of The Cenci, Medea, A Passage to India, Pravda, Blithe Spirit and Six Degrees of Separation.
