Peter Ellis (born 30th May 1936 in Bristol) appeared on Coronation Street in five roles:

His other television credits include roles in The Caucasian Chalk Circle, First Night, No Hiding Place, How We Used to Live, Hadleigh, Crown Court, Sam, Emmerdale Farm, Bill Brand, The XYY Man, Edward & Mrs. Simpson, Lytton's Diary, First Among Equals, The Crown and Archie, but is most recognised for his role as Chief Superintendent Charles Brownlow in The Bill from 1984 to 2000.

On stage, he appeared in productions of As You Like It, Richard II, The Merry Wives of Windsor, What Every Woman Knows, Saint Joan, Henry V, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Mary Stuart, The White Devil, Twelfth Night, Macbeth, King John, Doctor Faustus and The Shoemaker's Holiday for the Old Vic Company and The Twin Rivals, The Witch of Edmonton, All's Well That Ends Well, Our Friends in the North, Within a Word, Peter Pan and Night Shift for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Other works include Distant Point, The Hollow, Little Lambs Eat Ivy, The Crucible, Trafford Tanzi, Julius Caesar, Pride and Prejudice, What Would Helen Mirren Do?, Hindle Wakes and For King and Country.

He is married to actress Anita Parry, who herself appeared on Coronation Street.
