Peter Birrel (born as "Peter Birrel Cohen" on 19th July 1935 in Vienna, Austria; died 23rd June 2004 in Bath) appeared on Coronation Street in May 1971 as butcher's son John Dewhurst.
He also appeared in Drama 61-67, You Can't Win, Honey Lane, Alexander the Greatest, Holly, The Fenn Street Gang, The Main Chance, Doctor Who, Marked Personal, Crown Court, The XYY Man, Marie Curie, Square Mile of Murder, Angels, Melba, Around the World in 80 Days, War and Remembrance and London's Burning.
Film roles included Arch of Triumph and Gamal Abd El Naser while on radio, he was heard in The Friday Play: Nasser's Eden.
On stage, he appeared in productions of Private Performance, Camino Real, Abraham Lincoln, The Cocktail Party, The Tinker, The Goatsong, Richard II, Pyjama Tops, Coriolanus, Earwig and Queen Christina.
From 1998 until his death, he was married to actress Stephanie Cole, who herself appeared on Coronation Street in the regular role of Sylvia Goodwin.
