Paul Darrow (born "Paul Valentine Birkby" on 2nd May 1941 in Chessington, Surrey; died 3rd June 2019 in Wolverhampton) appeared on Coronation Street in November 1969 as Doctor Matthews, on duty at the hospital where the street residents were taken following the coach crash on the way back from the Lake District. (He previously appeared as an uncredited extra in Episode 83 (27th September 1961)).

Best known for his roles as Mr. Verity in Emergency-Ward 10 and as Kerr Avon in the BBC science-fiction series Blake's 7, his other credits include The Newcomers, The Flaxton Boys, Z Cars, Doctor Who, Murder Must Advertise, Within These Walls, Dixon of Dock Green, The Legend of Robin Hood, Couples, Rooms, Dombey & Son, Making News, Emmerdale, The Strangerers, Hollyoaks and Law & Order: UK.

Film roles include Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb and the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day.

On stage, he appeared in productions of Chips With Everything, A Patriot for Me, The Iceman Cometh, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Hadrian VII, Long Day's Journey Into Night, She Stoops to Conquer, The Mousetrap, Mr Fothergill's Murder, Are You Lonesome Tonight?, Trap for a Lonely Man and Deadfall.

His actress wife, the late Janet Lees Price, also appeared in two roles on Coronation Street.
