Maria Connor started experiencing severe labour pains whilst out walking on Ainsdale Beach with Tony Gordon and dog Ozzy in July 2009. Stating that she didn't think she'd be able to make it back to the car, Tony carried her over to a rundown shack and phoned for an ambulance.
Explaining that Maria was having contractions every few minutes and describing that they were at the shack on the north side of the dunes, the ambulance eventually arrived after Tony had safely delivered the baby boy, both mother and son were transferred to the back of the vehicle and wrapped in blankets. The Paramedic told Tony he could accompany them to the hospital as long as he "lost the dog". The female Dog Walker - who had spoken to Maria earlier in the day and had been concerned when she'd heard the ambulance sirens - offered to look after Ozzy and gave Tony her telephone number.
