The Nazir family are of Pakistani descent. Yasmeen Metcalfe was born there in 1953 where her father ran a small restaurant in Lahore.
In April 2018, Rana Habeeb's strict religious parents Hassan and Saira Habeeb attempted to send her to Pakistan, via a one-way ticket, by pretending her aunt Reena was ill in order to get her to comply. This was because they disapproved of her sexuality and wanted to split Rana and her partner Kate Connor up. The plan was foiled before the Habeebs could leave the UK when Kate, having been tipped off by Rana's brother Imran, caught up with the family's taxi and alerted Rana to the deception.
