The Paediatric Consultant attended to baby Bertie Osbourne when he contracted measles in January 2020. The infant had contracted a fever and was discovered limp in his cot, leading Daniel Osbourne and uncle Peter Barlow to call an ambulance. Taken to Weatherfield General, preliminary tests were conducted which ruled out meningitis and blood tests were ordered to confirm the theory that measles were involved. Daniel warned the hospital team that it could be the latter and had to face the wrath of the baby's great aunt Beth Sutherland when he admitted that he had refused to continue with the course of inoculations when he saw how much the first one had upset his son.
Trying to get Bertie's temperature down, the paediatrician continued a course of intravenous fluids and paracetamol, hoping for an overnight improvement in his condition. He soon stabilised, though with a high temperature and was kept in, in the expectation of a further improvement. The next day the course of treatment had proven to have worked though the paediatrician kept him in one more night, just to be on the safe side.
