PC Skidmore was a bobby on the beat who patrolled the Coronation Street area in 1965 when Weatherfield was preparing for a Royal visit from Queen Elizabeth.

When a burst water main on the corner of Victoria Street and Rosamund Street caused the route to be changed to include Coronation Street, the policeman passed the news onto Ena Sharples and Minnie Caldwell, telling the ladies to get the flags out. The women only made the discovery when they approached the PC to ask what he was doing in the street, Ena recognising him as the son of Beattie and Lionel Skidmore, and his unhelpfulness did not go unnoticed by the battleaxe. Later, as a flag-waving crowd waited behind crash barriers for Her Majesty to appear, Skidmore arrived to belatedly inform them that the water main had been repaired and the procession was back on the original route. His tardiness resulted in the residents having to make a dash for Viaduct Street to catch the Queen in time.

The character was credited as "Policeman". His surname was given in dialogue.
