PC Hunt interviewed Daniel Osbourne after Max Turner had fallen down the stairs of his corner shop flat in February 2022. The fall wasn't entirely accidental; trouble had been brewing between the teacher and pupil at Weatherfield High for some months over a range of issues with Daniel trying his best to get the disinterested pupil to maximise his potential and Max constantly finding new ways to cause conflict between the two.
The latest altercation was due to an injudicious comment by Daniel. Following a protest by pupils at the school about "up-skirting" photographs being taken, all students were forced to attend consent workshops. Max put off going to his until forced to do so by his father David Platt who felt that it was important. Finding out about this, Daniel alluded to Max that this was probably due to David's own history and, when questioned, David admitted to his son that he had been the victim of male rape at the hands of Josh Tucker in March 2018. Feeling incensed that his father had been forced to bring back to the surface painful memories at a time not of his choosing, Max obtained the keys to the flat and began to trash the premises. Daniel found him in the act and lost his temper when he found that the boy had smashed a memento of his dead wife Sinead. The two tussled on the stairs, causing Max to fall and suffer a fracture and concussion.
When questioned, Daniel told the officer his version of events but lied that he had closed the door behind Max after escorting him to the head of the stairs, and then had heard the fall. The officer said that she would get his statement typed up for his signature and the next step would be to get a statement from Max himself.
