Nuttall's Brewery

The Old Brewery gates at the top of Victoria Street

Nuttall's Brewery is a derelict brewery situated on Brewery Lane in Weatherfield, known to locals as the Old Brewery. The business was established in 1845 though by December 2020 it had closed, with Ray Crosby purchasing it for demolition and further redevelopment. Crosby's plans were halted by several residents, and the old brewery is now used as an events space.

An extension was built onto the brewery between 2017 and 2018.

Originally on Victoria Street and facing Hardcastle's Mill, the extensive redevelopment of property on the Northern part of the street and of properties on neighbouring Coronation Street over the years saw the area in front of the brewery closed off in 1989, forming Brewery Lane.

The family owned business was run by Harvey Nuttall during the mid to late 1990s, and in November and December 1995 he pampered new owners of the Rovers Return Inn, Jack and Vera Duckworth by inviting them on tours of the brewery and to private functions in a bid to get them to sell his beer in their pub.

Several years later in October 1999, Harvey was shocked to discover that the Rovers' new owner Natalie Barnes was allowing Vinny Sorrell to serve his own beer, Vinny's Velvet, through one of his pumps. He told her it broke their legal agreement and threatened to make trouble. She accused him of being petty and told him that she'd stop selling his beer. He was forced to back track and ended up promising to provide a special pump for Vinny's brew.

In February 2017, Gary Windass was employed to start renovating part of the brewery. The extension to the right of the property, which was styled faithfully to the rest of the building, was still ongoing into early 2018. Posters on the construction site held the slogan "Refreshing our building to refresh your tastes".

In December 2019, Michael Bailey joined forces with Big Garth to create the Weatherfield Winter Wonderland in the lane at the front of the brewery. The event ended in disaster when Derek Milligan, a crazed associate of Gary Windass went on a Christmas Day rampage, shooting and killing Robert Preston outside the Rovers Return Inn, before making his way to the helter-skelter at the Winter Wonderland where he shot Shona Platt and fell to his death.

In October 2021, Debbie Webster planned a Halloween event at the Old Brewery, known as Horror Nation Street. At the event's launch, large portions of the street below began to be swallowed up as a consequence of the sinkhole in the back garden of 8 Coronation Street, resulting in the death of Johnny Connor.

The front facade of the old brewery was first seen with the 1982 Outdoor Set, in reality the Museum of Science and Industry that neighboured Granada Studios. It wasn't until the 1999 extension of the set and addition of Victoria Street that the brewery gates were first seen and the geography of Nuttall's to Coronation Street was explained. An external filming location was used during the brewery's 1995 appearances. Following the move to the MediaCity studios in 2014, the facade and gates were replicated.
