Noel Howlett (born 22nd December 1902 in Bexley, Kent; died 26th October 1984 in Hammersmith, London) appeared in Coronation Street in January 1968 as solicitor Mr Tabley, acting for Jerry Booth in divorce proceedings.
He appeared in many roles in a long career but reached his greatest fame in the late 1960s/early 1970s comedy Please Sir! as the doddery headteacher Morris Cromwell.
His other television roles include parts in Fabian of the Yard, Little Women, Good Wives, Dancers in Mourning, Maigret, Silas Marner, Sexton Blake and Pardon My Genie.
Films included A Christmas Carol, Lust for Life and Lawrence of Arabia.
On stage, he appeared in productions of Hay Fever, Interference, East of Suez, Counsel's Opinion and The Cat and the Canary for Northampton Repertory Company, along with The Merchant of Venice, Richard III, The Taming of the Shrew and King Lear for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Other works include Once in a Lifetime, George and Margaret, Drawing Room, Alien Corn, The Golden Cuckoo, The Gioconda Smile, Dear Charles, Waiting for Gillian, Two Stars for Comfort, As You Like It and The Beastly Beatitudes of Balthazar B.
