Nigel Pivaro was born on 11th December 1959 in Manchester. He played the role of Terry Duckworth in Coronation Street intermittently from 1983 until his final appearance in 2012. His other credits include roles in Hetty Wainthropp Investigates and 24 Hour Party People. Pivaro now works as a newspaper journalist, intially for the Manchester Evening News, and has since written for the Daily Star, Daily Mirror and Sunday Mirror. He has also presented documentaries for the BBC.

Pivaro had originally auditioned for the role of Curly Watts before getting the part of Terry Duckworth in 1983, the son of established characters Vera and Jack Duckworth. He played the role on a regular basis until 1987, before reprising the part for a few months in 1988, and then appeared intermittently from 1992 until 2012. Despite Terry's villainous nature and coming into conflict with his parents with each passing visit, Pivaro was close to Jack and Vera's actors, the late William Tarmey and Elizabeth Dawn, and following their real life deaths he paid tribute to them in his columns.
