Nicky Wheatley was an escort that Daniel Osbourne met while out at a lawyers' drinks reception at The Waterway hotel in June 2020.
Daniel's wife Sinead died in 2019 and Daniel was badly effected by this and no longer had any time to himself as he had to look after his infant son Bertie. Daniel's nephew Adam realised that Daniel needed company and so took him to a lawyers' drinks reception at the hotel. Adam was in his element there but Daniel drank alone at the hotel's bar, unimpressed.
While at the bar, Nicky approached Daniel and began to chat him up. The pair hit it off immediately, with Daniel finding he could really open up to Nicky about what he had been through in the past year. When Daniel signalled his intention to call it a night, Nicky invited him to her room to which he accepted.
However, it was only when he was upstairs with Nicky that she revealed her occupation as an escort and asked for a payment of £150 up front. Daniel was hurt and upset, as he believed that Nicky actually liked him. He angrily gave her all the money he had, just £40 and stormed off.
The next morning, while still hung up over the previous night's events, Daniel found himself staring at a selfie the pair took at the hotel bar. Eventually, he decided to call her and later paid her a visit at her hotel room. There, Daniel once again opened up to Nicky but this time more about losing Sinead. He told her he felt constantly lonely, and she responded by taking his hand and telling him he didn't need to be lonely any more.
