Nicholas J. Stringer (born 10th August 1948 in Torquay) appeared on Coronation Street in two roles: firstly between April and May 1984 and in January 1985 as Newton & Ridley's temporary manager, Frank Harvey; and he returned to the programme in December 1997 as singer, Jump Jackson, and childhood sweetheart of Ida Clough in the 1960s.

He graduated from The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and began his acting career at the Liverpool Playhouse.

His other credits include roles in Crown Court, Pickersgill People, Angels, Open All Hours, Only Fools and Horses, The New Adventures of Lucky Jim, Goodnight and God Bless, Johnny Jarvis, The Bill, Boon, A Sort of Innocence, The New Statesman, Capstick's Law, Press Gang, Family Affairs and Holby City.

Film roles include Children, The Shout, The Life Story of Baal, That Summer!, The Long Good Friday, Give Us This Day, The Terence Davies Trilogy, Clockwise, Personal Services, We Think the World of You, Stella Does Tricks, Captain Jack, Oliver Twist, The Edge of Love and I Know You Know.

On stage, he appeared in productions of Funny Peculiar, John Paul George Ringo and Bert, Saint Joan, Queen Christina, Normal Service, Forever Young, Lulu, Great Expectations, Scrap!, Macbeth, Communicating Doors, She Stoops to Conquer, Neville's Island, The Handyman and Elizabeth Rex.
